Kentucky GIS Conference 2026
Wednesday September 30, 2026 TBA
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are the backbone of accurate location information in 9-1-1, and they are essential at the call-taking level because every decision starts with “where.” 9-1-1 Telecommunicators rely on mapping screens all day, every day to validate caller locations, visualize wireless Phase II/NG9-1-1 location data, and confirm the correct address or landmark when callers are confused, panicked, or unable to speak. These maps help call takers quickly see jurisdictional boundaries, hydrants, access points, and routing information so they can send the right units to the right place with minimal delay, which directly impacts response times and outcomes. As Next Generation 9-1-1 continues to evolve, high‑quality GIS data and reliable mapping are not optional extras; they are mission‑critical tools that support life‑safety and reduce the chance of misrouted calls or responders going to the wrong location.
