About me
Monika Bhusal is a current graduate student in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Geoinformatics at Murray State University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. After her undergraduate studies, her involvements as an agriculture technician, research assistant at soil laboratory, and trainer for different projects helped her gain experience in research, workplace, and extension services. Working in these roles, she got to know how integration of remote sensing and spatial analysis could be a data driven solution for agricultural and environmental challenges that motivated her to pursue graduate studies in this field.Her thesis research, which she is currently working on, focuses on the application of machine learning algorithms, particularly random forest, to predict saturated conductivity of soils in Kentucky. Her work integrates in-situ soil properties with environmental covariates through remote sensing to develop covariate based geotransfer functions for improved decision making on hydrological modeling and land management. Monika is also a student member of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP). Beyond academics, she enjoys travelling, creating mandala art and spending time in nature.
